Dissertation Research: Game-Based Physical Education
Dr. Nemeth’s dissertation, “The Acute Impact of Game-Based Physical Education on the Mood States of Middle School Students,” explored how participation in different PE games influences students’ emotional well-being. He chose this topic because of the immense value of movement during the school day and its potential to positively influence students’ moods.
“As a PE teacher, I believe that physical education has many physical benefits, but the mental improvements are just as crucial. Understanding the positive impact that physical activity can have on one’s mood and emotional well-being is so important and can help students build healthy habits outside of the classroom.”

He hopes to publish his research so other educators can incorporate game-based approaches and mood-enhancing strategies into their own classrooms.
Upon reflecting on his doctoral experience, he acknowledges that the coursework and writing seemed daunting at times, but he wants new doctoral students to remember “it is an amazing opportunity to learn and grow as an individual.”
